In conjunction with the Barrington Yacht Club’s Centennial celebration, memorabilia from the club’s first 100 years is currently on display on the first floor of the library. The exhibit will remain up until the end of March 2008.  Burgees, trophies, and other historical items are included in the display.  The Barrington Yacht Club was incorporated on March 25, 1908, and this exhibit kicks off a year-long series of events commemorating its founding.

During the month of March photographs by Dan Connolly are on display at the Library. Dan makes digital photographic prints of the landscape, natural artifacts, and still lifes. His work is characterized by simple composition, a rich and natural color palette, and natural light. The images of water are often done with long exposures, creating a smooth and less chaotic interpretation of the scene, distilling its essential nature. Mr. Connolly lives in Barrington with his wife and three children....

Elsa Grieder returns to the Library to host a play reading series on Tuesday mornings at 10:00, May 27-June 17.    Plays include The Good Doctor by Neil Simon, The Elephant Man by Bernard Pomerance, Coastal Disturbances by Tina Howe and The Perfect Party by A.R. Gurney.  Registration begins at 9:00 AM on Thursday, May 15, 2008, in person or by phone at the Library’s Reference Desk (247-1920 x 2). Group is limited to 10 participants.

Award winning poet Michele Cooper will be reading from her recently published book Posting the Watch at the library on Tuesday, March 18 at 7PM.  Michele is well-known in Rhode Island as editor of The Newport Review and the Crone’s Nest and for her tireless encouragement of poets, both new and experienced.  Welcome Michele back to RI and enjoy her wonderful poems!
