A New Chapter Upstairs: 2nd Floor Renovation Blog

April 13, 2017

We’re moving today!  As I type this, the new children’s department is just about finished. Nearly all the shelves are up and thousands of books are now being shelved, along with movies, recorded books, and magazines.  The children’s staff are working hard to move bags and bags of craft supplies because the new children’s room has a really beautiful, very functional program room with a large screen, a sink, and working stove, a projector and lots and lots of storage cabinets.

No bee hive was ever more intense and focused than the Barrington Library children’s staff and custodians as they prepare the “hive” for its ultimate occupation.  Also moving today are the administrative offices.  As I type this, my assistant Catherine is boxing and moving computers, equipment, countless files, stacks of paper, and all the bits and pieces that make up a working office.  Before the end of the day, I have to move all the stuff accumulated in my temporary office, and that will be quite an undertaking.  But what a pleasure it will be to occupy the beautiful new offices in the administrative suite!

By next week we hope our technical services department (where books are processed and catalogued) can move into their bright new space.  All of this is in preparation for the start of Phase II which will encompass the auditorium, gallery, additional conference room, rest rooms, green room, and community services staff office.

Lots of excitement today!  On to Phase II!
