I think I get it now. Why there are so many folks out there who LOVE to listen to recorded books.  For the past few days I’ve been having a wonderful time listening to the Geography of Bliss: One Grump’s Search for the Happiest Places in the World by Eric Weiner.  I have been alternating between out loud laughter and intense contemplation about this book which attempts to find and explain why some places in the world appear to be significantly, in fact, even quantifiably, happier than others.  I get so enraptured in listening to the recorded book that I absolutely hate to get out of the car. If you want to check it out, follow this link:

We have a pretty nice mix of recorded books here in the library. Some are on tapes; some are on CD’s. Some we buy outright, some we lease, to help keep the stock turning over. Some are fiction; some are non fiction. Some are read by the authors; some by very talented actors.

We also have a new format called Playaways.  They are practically indestructible, compared to the CD's that are prone to scratching and smudging.  Batteries and headphones are NOT included, but a great book is. Ask us about them.

For those more technologically inclined, we have downloadable books, available through the Ocean State Library E Zone. Right now they do not work with IPODS, but other players are compatable.  Find out more at:

If you are in your car alot and use that as the reason why you don’t have time to read, guess what? There’s time! Just check out a recorded book.

Happy listening!
