The Butterfly Garden follows the story of a highly disturbed man who collects “butterflies” to keep in his garden. These “butterflies” are women who have been kidnapped and marked with a large and intricate tattoo on their backs by this man who they call the Gardener. The story begins with Maya who has escaped and slowly begins filling in the pieces of her life before her time in the Garden and the nightmare she experienced while there to a pair of FBI agents. Maya’s story of life in the garden is a shocking one filled with horror and abuse but also one of survival. The Butterfly Garden is a traumatic tale but it is also a story filled with friendship and hope.
