Almost everyone remembers Valerie Bertinelli from the television show," One Day at a Time" or more recently, "Hot in Cleveland". But she now has a new cooking show, "Valerie's Home Cooking" on the Food Network, and if you watched her cooking show, you will want to check out her book, Valerie's Home Cooking. This is a beautifully photographed cookbook with bits of Valerie's bubbly personality poking through as she shares many dishes and personalizes them with tidbits from her family life. The recipes are easy to follow with ingredients the home cook typically has on hand. Also included within some of the recipes are brief notes titled: 'equipment';'variation'; 'trick technique'; 'make ahead'; ingredient note'; 'serving tip' and 'cooking tip'. Eager to try the recipes, this reader made three dishes: Spinach and Strawberry Salad with Warm Bacon Vinaigrette; Bacon-Wrapped Jalapeno Shrimp with Cherry Cola BBQ Sauce; and Chickarina Soup. All three recipes were easy to follow and not time consuming, and most importantly, they were huge hits with the hungry masses.
