"Women in Jazz": A Lecture with Lloyd Kaplan

Join Professor Emeritus and RI jazz legend, Lloyd Kaplan for a lecture titled, "Women in Jazz" on Thursday, October 11 from 6:30 to 8 pm.

He will feature female instrumentalists who have traditionally been ignored and discriminated against throughout  history and will offer musical examples of some of the most significant individuals, including Mary Osborne, Lil Armstrong and Anat Cohen. 

Lloyd Kaplan has taught at CCRI for more than 30 years. In 2002 he was inducted into CCRI's Hall of Fame. He chaired the Music Department for six years and introduced the Jazz Curriculum. He also teaches through the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute divisions at Coastal Carolina University and at URI for the past 23 years. Earlier this year, he was inducted into the Rhode Island Music Hall of Fame. He is 85 years old and is presently the leader of the swing/jazz group, The Aristocats which will perform at Barrington Public Library on Thurs, Nov. 8.
