Virtual Film Chat with Doug: Charlie Chaplin's The Great Dictator

Join librarian Doug Swiszcz on Zoom at 1 pm on Wed, April 8 for a virtual film chat about Charlie Chaplin's The Great Dictator (1940, 125 minutes, in black and white). This political satire features Chaplin in dual roles:  Adenoid Hynkel (a parody of Adolf Hitler), and a humble Jewish barber who is a dead ringer for the dictator.  Made and released before the United States entered World War II, it was the first of Chaplin's films to fully employ spoken dialogue. It is available to stream via the library's subscription to Kanopy.

We encourage you to watch the film prior to the chat. Doug will share some of his vast movie knowledge with us and then open the space up for discussion.
