The story takes place in two countries, France and UK, and centers around two families. It begins with a bombing of a British student tour bus in Calais, France. A suspended cop’s daughter is on the bus and survives. The cop reunites with her and quickly discovers that his detective skills are required when the bombing rapidly becomes an international incident. A student, related to a family involved in a London bombing some years prior, has gone missing shortly after the attack. The story weaves between the cop, his family, and several other characters. Ultimately, Tell the Truth, Shame the Devil is a superb and finely tuned character study. It’s a slow burn mystery with many intense thrills and a few, though foreseeable, twists.
