Hoopla service to end December 31, 2025
We regularly review all of our resources to ensure they provide strong value, deliver a great user experience, and provide equitable access to a wide range of offerings. As part of that ongoing evaluation, the Barrington Public Library has made the decision to discontinue hoopla after December 31, 2025. The decision was primarily reached due to high costs, quality control, and overlapping content. Like many libraries across the country, we’ve found that Hoopla’s pay-per-use model is no longer sustainable, especially as demand grows.
On December 31, 2025, until 5:00 p.m. is the last day to borrow new items on hoopla using your BPL library card.
After that date, you’ll still be able to log into your account and access previously borrowed items through the end of their lending period. Want to save your Hoopla history? Take a screenshot. Go to “My Hoopla” > “History.”
We understand this decision may be upsetting to our hoopla users, but please know that this is not a decision we have made lightly. And the good news is that we still have Libby and Palace Project to help meet your ebook and audiobook needs! If you have any questions, please email info@barringtonlibrary.org.
3/7/24 notice:
Due to funding, Barrington Public Library has unfortunately made the difficult decision to change the availability of your hoopla Digital collection. You may also notice a shift in the access to your current collection. We apologize for any inconvenience. We are always doing our best to provide the fullest platform possible and are hopeful to offer you an unlimited catalog in the near future.
Why do I see a "daily limit" in the hoopla app? hoopla users have reached the daily borrowing limit. Each borrow is a cost. Due to hoopla's popularity, we have placed a cap on the daily cost to keep our budget in line. The "daily limit" notice may or may not appear each day. It all depends on the checkout activity. The library is looking into ways to remove the "daily limit" starting in July.
