Barrington Public Library is happy to welcome Linus Powers to the Main Floor Gallery and the Rhode Island Tempestry Project to the Jennifer English Gallery!
Jennifer English Gallery (second floor)
Artist: Andre Gil
Andre Gil is a first-generation Cuban American attending Barrington High School. He writes about immigration and the assimilation of minority populations in the United States, with his work published in the Blue Marble Review and recognized as a finalist in The Letter Review international writing competition. Beyond writing, Andre produced and directed a podcast interviewing his father, a Cuban refugee, about his life under communism, immigration, and the challenges of early assimilation. He hopes the podcast, paired with the visual display of family photos from Cuba, will be a multifaceted approach to illuminate the struggles and complexities of the immigrant experience.
Main Floor Gallery
Artist: Linus Powers
Powers' exhibit will include acrylic paintings on canvas and pen & ink drawings on paper featuring a mix of landscapes and animal portraits in bold lines and colors. Many of the images might look familiar to those from the East Bay as they are based on local scenery and architecture. Linus Powers is a self-taught artist and musician. A lifelong Rhode Islander from Providence County, Linus is currently residing in Barrington with his wife, two daughters, cat, and frogs. He loves identifying surrounding wildlife and has a passion for writing and playing music inspired by heavy metal, 80s pop, and 90s video games.
